    Compassion or Control?

Is compassion always a good thing? Not when it comes out of the need to control instead of the desire to love. You know you’re using compassion to control when you expect an outcome and then are disappointed when it doesn’t occur.

The next time you feel the desire to help someone, ask yourself why you’re doing it. If the help is not received, or if the person doesn’t change in the way you expected as a result of your help, then how would that make you feel? If the answer is in the family of disappointment or resentment, then weigh that in before you decide to act.

Sometimes the feeling of compassion is enough. If you can find gratitude in this, then letting go of the outcome - if you decide to express this compassion - will be much easier.
